4 Drugstore Moisturizers for Perpetually Dry Skin
Lucky are those who do not need to suffer from perennial dryness, who wake up with soft and supple skin and do not require external agents to keep it that way. And then some were gifted with perpetual dryness as their heirloom. Dry patches, blotchy skin, and tightness around mouth and eyes, flaky, reptile skin etc.; if all of these conditions seem unfamiliar to you, I would like to ask you something. How does it feel to be God’s favourite?
Right when I moved past my teenage, I started to experience the horrors of dry skin. In my teenage years, of course, I was super hormonal and my skin was going through numerous changes. From over-active oil-glands to occasional breakouts, I’ve had it all. But ever since I hit my twenties, my skin’s been acting up a little crazy. After finally getting to know that there was something insanely wrong with my then skincare routine, I was determined to find the perfect moisturizer for my skin. After a fair share of hits and misses, I have hacked quite a few that perform amazingly well. You can find them in your nearest drugstore and wouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg. Here are my findings.
St. Ives Renewing Moisturizer
This one’s been a constant in my skincare routine for ages now. If your skin hates heavy moisturizers in the hot summer months, your pores feel like they’re choking and you sweat like anything, this one will save your back. Not only is it infused with collagen and elastin, which are fibres that make up the supporting structure of the skin, it’s also insanely absorbent and won’t clog your pores. For anyone who cares to know, collagen gives skin its firmness while elastin keeps skin tight. Both of these fibres are plentiful in young skin and start to break down with natural ageing and as a result of sun exposure. However, the molecular mass of this moisturizer is so light, that it seeps into the deepest layers of your skin and moisturizes it. It leaves no residue, is like a drink of water for your face and performs very efficiently under makeup. A total winner!
Nivea Crème
This is a cult classic. Our grand-mums have used this for the longest time and to say that it stood by the test of time, would be no wrong. This crème is so luxurious and thick and so intensively moisturizing that even if your skin mimics a parched desert, it’ll heal it. I noticed that the skin around my mouth becomes excessively dry and literally flakes off in the cold winter months. Very uncomfortable, tbh. However, this moisturizer works great as a moisture mask before going to bed. Just put a thick layer on, doze off and you’ll wake up in the morning with skin that’s as fresh as a daisy. Also, this works great as a makeup base/moisturizing primer. Susan Yara, a skincare expert has compared it to Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream. She claimed that it’s the same product without you having to break the bank. In fact, the magic cream is a dupe for Nivea Crème.

Nivea Soft Cream
This one’s so remarkably conditioning for your skin that it’s going to thank you. Essentially being a water-based moisturizer, it seeps deep into the skin, is suitable to use on your entire body including the face and again, works great under makeup. Now, why is being suitable to wear under makeup a huge concern for me? Well, you know some moisturisers react differently to foundations and change their formulation, coagulates them, and changes them into tiny globules on the face? We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Kate Middleton, the Royal Duchess of Britain, swears by this moisturizer. She claims that she’s been using it for years and shall continue to do so.
Garnier Wrinkle-Lift Cream
Although this claims to have anti-ageing properties, it is essentially a moisturizer that hydrates and replenishes and is also a spot-on dupe of Bobbi Brown’s Face Base. You can put it on its own or layer it under makeup, you sure wouldn’t be disappointed with how well it performs. I personally got to know about this one when an Indian YouTuber and influencer named Malvika Sitlani raved about it in a few of her videos. It sure lives up to its hype and performs wonderfully well.
