According to Naseeruddin Shah, I would never watch movies like “RRR” and “Pushpa”
Veteran Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah made an appearance as a guest on the most recent episode of the Be A Man, Yaar! podcast with presenter Nikhil Taneja and provided some insightful perspectives that sparked conversation among listeners, admirers, and onlookers.
Naseeruddin responded that the increased emphasis on masculinity in cinema has come as a response to the general rise in insecure attitudes among men when Nikhil questioned the Irada star about his thoughts on audiences’ increased fascination with hyper-masculinity being depicted on the silver screen, as it was with the movie Kabir Singh. Then he gave the movies RRR from 2022 and Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1 from 2021 as examples, claiming that the tremendous level of masculinity in these two well-liked and highly regarded films prevented him from watching them.
“I was unable to watch Pushpa and RRR. But because Mani Ratnam is a renowned director without a preconceived notion, I did watch Ponniyin Selvan. What people gain from seeing these movies is beyond my comprehension. I’d never watch them, the Gehraiyaan actor declared. While Naseeruddin gave negative reviews to RRR and Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1, he gave positive reviews to Mani Ratnam’s historical action-drama Ponniyin Selvan, which dealt with similar themes but, in his opinion, handled the material more deftly and with more tact.
The Aiyaary actor praised Southern-Indian films from the Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu film industries in February 2023 as being significantly more imaginative and truthful in their storytelling than the numerous Hindi films that are released each year, according to Hindustan Times.
Despite the fact that Southern-Indian films occasionally make poor stylistic decisions, he said, they are consistently strong in terms of character development and narrative of both the people and their storylines.
RRR, which was directed by SS Rajamouli, received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film and won the award for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. Sukumar was the film’s director, and Allu Arjun played the title character in Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1.
According to The Times of India, the movie earned over INR3.65 billion at the box office, making it a huge success. Similar to this, RRR became an international phenomenon after it was discovered to have made over INR11 billion.
