The Taylor Swift concert organizer apologizes for the death of a Rio fan
Following the death of a fan during Taylor Swift’s Rio de Janeiro concert due to an intense heat wave, the CEO of the firm planning the pop star’s tour dates in Brazil issued an apology. Fans claimed they were not allowed to bring water bottles inside the stadium for the show last Friday, even though the Brazilian beach city’s heat index reached 59 degrees Celsius (138 Fahrenheit). As a result, the organizers have come under fire.
A 23-year-old fan in the 60,000-person sold-out audience passed away. Head of Time For Fun Serafim Abreu said in a social media video, “We recognize we could have taken alternative measures in addition to all those we implemented, such as providing shade in external areas, changing the time of the concerts and emphasizing that fans could enter the stadium with disposable water cups.” His “most sincere condolences” were extended to the family of the deceased fan. “I want to apologize to all those who didn’t have the best possible experience,” he continued.
The company stated that after the young woman became ill, emergency personnel attended to her right away. An hour or so later, the woman was brought to a hospital. According to the daily O Globo, a preliminary autopsy revealed that she had suffered three heart attacks and a lung hemorrhage. Swift rescheduled the show for that evening for Monday and claimed on Saturday that she was “devastated” by the tragedy.
She posted a letter on her Instagram Stories, saying, “It’s unbelievable that I’m writing this, but it is with a broken heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show.” “I am so devastated by this that words cannot express.” The 33-year-old vocalist of Bad Blood stated that she knows “very little” about the fan’s passing “aside from the fact that she was so extraordinarily beautiful and far too young.”
She went on, “I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about this, so I’m not going to be able to speak about it from the stage.” “Now that I’ve experienced this loss firsthand, I want to express how much my heart hurts for her family and friends. Swift said, “This is the last thing I ever imagined would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
“We know that climate change means these episodes will be more and more frequent,” Abreu stated. “The entire concert industry has to rethink how it operates in the face of this new reality.” Swift will be performing in Sao Paulo on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of this week as part of her Eras Tour.
