Bilawal presents a 10-point “welfare” platform to launch the PPP’s election campaign
Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, unveiled a 10-point platform on Wednesday, February 8th, to begin his party’s election campaign.
Speaking at a party event in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on the sixteenth anniversary of his mother Benazir Bhutto’s passing, Bilawal outlined the party’s platform for the elections that will take place on February 8, 2024.
In the 2018 polls, Bilawal’s party is going to enforce a 10-point plan that it promised would prioritize the welfare of the people. If elected, the party will implement these measures.
Here’s a breakdown of what Bilawal promised his party would do if they came into power.
Double the salaries within five years
Free solar energy of 300 units for the poor; every district to have green energy parks
Education for all — rolling out projects for better education
Free health for all across Pakistan
Three million houses for flood affectees and the poor
Expand BISP’s scope; introducing more welfare schemes
BSIP-like programme for farmers and ‘Hari Card’
Enhanced support for labourers through Benazir Mazdoor Card
‘Youth Card’ for unemployed youth and ‘Youth Markaz’
‘Bhook Mitao Programme’
In addition to pledging significant policy changes, the PPP leader launched a new attack against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), a political rival, without naming any specific individuals.
According to Bilawal, some people are depending on “others” for the future elections, just as they have in the past.
The PPP chairman reaffirmed his determination to run in the polls in spite of the difficulties, saying he will take on his political rivals in Lahore.
“I had expressed to my group that I intended to compete from Lahore. The fight will go to Lahore with me. “Let us observe the outcome,” he uttered.
“Is it Lahore’s destiny that the same person will be installed for the fourth time?” With a jab at PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, who is vying for a record-breaking fourth term as prime minister of the nation, Bilawal added.
Bilawal stated, “Our paths are different with those of those we were in government for 16 months,” alluding to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government led by the PML-N, of which the PPP played a significant role.
The PPP leader promised to give their rivals in Lahore “a befitting response” in the polls.
Regarding the party’s candidacies for prime minister, Bilawal declared that he will seek the backing of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), led by his father Asif Ali Zardari, in order to run as the party’s nominee.
His comments come after last month, when Zardari called his son “inexperienced” in an interview with Hamid Mir on Geo News’ “Capital Talk” program. Zardari also claimed that as the head of the PPPP, he had the power to give party tickets to candidates, including Bilawal. These remarks stoked rumors of a rift between the father and son.
Later, Bilawal was reassured by PPP Central Secretary Information Faisal Karim Kundi that the party still had Bilawal as its nominee for the chief executive position
