North Waziristan’s Gas Reserves Found by Mari Petroleum
An important gas discovery has been made at the Shewa-2 well in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MARI), a prominent participant in Pakistan’s oil and gas industry. MARI, in partnership with OGDCL and OPI, has a 55% operating interest as the operator of the Waziristan Block, while their respective shares are 35% and 10%.
The Shewa-2 well, sunk to a depth of 4,577 meters, attempted to appraise the Lockhart and Hangu formations, building on the discoveries found in the Shewa-1 exploratory well. The business confirmed the hydrocarbon potential of this exploratory project with a gas flow of 0.607 MMSCFD during the Drill Stem Test in the Kawagarh deposit.
Additional evaluations of the Lockhart and Hangu formations demonstrated extensions of the hydrocarbon potential in these regions. Of particular note, the Lockhart formation in Shewa-2 showed a significant gas flow rate of 391 barrels of condensate per day and 51 MMSCFD. The results of these successful experiments point to the existence of substantial hydrocarbon reserves.
With an exploratory success rate of almost 70%, MARI outperforms industry averages, which often fall between 33% and 14% nationally and worldwide. This illustrates how adept the business is in locating and removing hydrocarbons.
Refineries, gas distribution businesses, electricity generation firms, and fertilizer manufacturers are among the company’s varied clientele. Pakistan’s energy sector benefits from this gas discovery at Shewa-2, which expands the country’s natural gas reserves. To add to MARI’s list of accomplishments is its recent success in digging a horizontal well in Sindh’s District Daharki.
MARI’s importance in influencing Pakistan’s energy landscape and bolstering the nation’s energy security is highlighted by its ongoing exploration and fruitful finds. The company’s dedication to sustainable resource development and bolstering the homegrown energy industry is in line with the advances at Shewa-2.
