The 2019 item song that Kubra Khan “didn’t want to do” brought tears to her eyes

The 2019 item song that Kubra Khan "didn't want to do"

Renowned Pakistani actress Kubra Khan, who has starred in films including Sang-e-Mar Mar and Alif, spoke up to host Yasir Hussain about her experience with an item number. The item song, a common element of Pakistani and Bollywood movies, has recently generated a lot of discussion. According to Kubra, she was inspired to try this musical piece by a miscommunication.

“I heard there’s a song in Superstar, it’s a cameo of you, it’s really nice,” the actor said, talking about how she was asked to play Dharak Bharak in the Mahira Khan film from 2019. “The song is for a film within a film.” I replied, “Okay, I heard it’s a nice dance song that Ashraf and I will do together.”

Kubra emphasized how she was unaware that she was consenting to an item number when speaking with the film’s directors and producers. Since he informed me that the song is for a movie inside a movie, it doesn’t occur to you that this may be an item number. It was a whole situation, the woman clarified.

“I became aware of it when I got to the set. The night before the filming, I was shown the ghagra choli,” Kubra revealed. The famous person revealed how, unaware that she would be wearing her dress for an item song, she discussed it with the crew when it came to her song.

“I responded, ‘Not high,’ when asked how high we could go with the ghagra choli. When they suggested going strapless, I declined and suggested instead that we wear very short sleeves. They also inquired about the choli’s back, so I told them to go a little lower there so the camera wouldn’t catch it,” she recalled.

For the Jannat Se Aagay actor, who conveyed how awful she felt the experience, the song was more than just a slip-up. “The part where I walk into the song and everyone goes crazy,” Kubra remarked. There was a road ahead, the camera was directly in front of me, a group of guys were standing, and I was entering with swagger and style while we were filming that scene.

“The boys were whistling and yelling when I gave my first walk, and I had tears in my eyes that I don’t want to do this,” the woman continued. Kubra’s own misgivings regarding item numbers in general were the root of her response. To be honest, [item numbers] are only a matter of taste. The concept at issue is objectification.

She continued, “I am not going to lie, I don’t have a lot of issues with Dharak Bharak to this day because I wasn’t objectified because of that, Bilal was,” in reference to her song costar’s shirtless appearance.

Kubra elaborated on how these songs usually contain troublesome lyrics, using the 2014 hit song Billi from Na Maloom Afraad by Mehwish Hayat. “The song’s lyrics are completely inappropriate, even if you look at Billi; Mehwish did a fantastic job in it and she didn’t do it in a vulgar way, so that’s okay,” the woman said.

Kubra said, “I won’t do item numbers,” highlighting the significance of appropriateness and context in how female roles are portrayed in the business. She revealed more details about the discussion that took place before the filming of Dhadak Bhadak, saying, “I asked them to tell me if there’s a context to the song.” He added, “It’s all context. Mahira went to see a movie, and she’s a star. You and Bilal are the movie’s heroine and hero.”

The performer talked candidly about her early days in the business, describing how she didn’t know many people when she first started. Kubra said, “I didn’t know anyone when I came to the industry.” “I had no idea who was who. I was aware of Nauman Ijaz and Ahmad Ali Butt. I was also aware of Mikaal because I had received his advertisement through email.

She continued by describing how her encounters with other celebrities were affected by her lack of acquaintance with the industry titans. individuals would approach me with big names and I wouldn’t know who they are, so many were attracted by the fact that Kubra said, “So I knew three people in the industry.”

“I would handle them in the same manner as I would a buddy. They couldn’t understand why she wasn’t bringing this up. She explained, “Not that my actor friends ever behaved in this way, but there were others who would.”
