PTI replicates its 2018 K-P sweep
According to unofficial, unverified preliminary results, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which has ruled Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa twice, looked to be headed for a clean sweep in the general elections held on Thursday, handily defeating all opponents in both National Assembly and Provincial Assembly constituencies in a near-repeat of the 2018 elections.
Political heavyweights from all of the PTI’s opponent parties, including JUI-F, ANP, PML-N, and PPP, appeared to be losing in both the National Assembly and K-P Assembly constituencies, according to the results that contestants compiled using Form-45.
Furthermore, the PTI-Parliamentarians, the political party created by the former chief ministers Pervaiz Khattak and Mehmood Khan, are among those who broke with PTI founder Imran Khan and are expected to lose, while the PTI is expected to emerge triumphant.
Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI, won a National Assembly seat from Bannu in the 2018 general elections. Asfandyar Wali Khan, Sirajul Haq, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Aftab Sherpao, Shehbaz Sharif, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had all lost in the province.
Unofficial reports suggest that a familiar trend is developing, even if the final results have not yet been compiled. PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar Khan, who is running as an independent, seems to be headed for success.
While the leaders of the PTI’s opposing political parties, JUI-F chief Fazl and his two sons, QWP chief Sherpao and his son Sikandar, JI Amir Sirajul Haq, and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, were losing.
According to preliminary findings, PTI defeats powerful political figures. Veteran politician Ghulam Ahmed Bilour is one of those who has fallen victim to PTI’s political domination. Saleem Saifullah, a former federal minister, won, but his brother Anwar Saifullah of the PPP lost.
ANP Information Secretary Samar Haroon Bilor, PPP K-P President Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, General Secretary Shuja Khan, Information Secretary Amjad Afridi, JUI General Secretary Maulana Ataul Haq, JI K-P Amir Prof. Ibrahim, General Secretary Abdul Wasi, and Bakht Jahan are also losing.
The PTI-backed candidates, on the other hand, are set to win for a second or even third time. They ran as independents because the party had lost the election symbol of the “bat” because of dispute within the party.
Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar, K-P Speaker Mushtaq Ghani, and former federal ministers Shaheryar Afridi, Ali Muhammad Khan, and Ali Amin Gandapur were among the anticipated winners supported by the PTI.
In a similar vein, it is anticipated that three of former president Gen. Ayub Khan’s grandsons—Omar, Akbar, and Arshad—will be on this list. However, the only son-in-law of previous president Ghulam Ishaq Khan, Hisham Inamullah, and his grandson, Taimur Saleem Jhagra, are expected to win.
Anwar Saifullah, the other son-in-law of Ghulam Ishaq Khan, and Samar Haroon Bilour, his granddaughter, seemed to be losing, though. However, Salim, the brother of Anwar Saifullah, is likely to overcome Fazl’s son Maulana Asjad Mahmood in an intriguing bout in which he hopes to exact revenge for his 2013 loss to Saleem.
Shandana Gulzar and Mian Umar Jamshed Kakakhel, who are supported by the are expected to hold onto or reclaim the seats that their parents once held. Gulzar Khan, Shandana’s father, won the PTI ticket for the 2013 general elections from Peshawar. Shandana Gulzar is now anticipated to reclaim this position.
In a similar vein, Mian Jamshed Kakakhel, an independent supported by the PTI, is expected to win in Nowshera. In the general elections of 2013 and 2018, his father Mian Umar Kakakhel’s PTI ticket allowed him to win this seat. But following his passing, Mian Umar Kakakhel was defeated by the (PML-N) in the by-election.
