The PTI’s enforcers are Pakistani “criminals”: Nawaz Sharif
Despite the great advancements made during his time as prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister and supreme leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), made harsh statements on Wednesday directed at certain members of the military and judiciary. He called them “criminals” of Pakistan for their part in the installation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Nawaz addressed the media following the PML-N’s parliamentary party meeting in Islamabad, saying, “You did not oppress me but the people of Pakistan by imposing these [PTI] people.” Nawaz took aim at those he felt were to blame for his downfall.
The former premier criticized the judges who found against him in a scathing indictment of the legal system. “Today, those who rendered the decision against me are stepping down. “Observe Saqib Nisar’s current location.”
Nawaz Sharif mocked the PTI leadership, saying, “We’re dealing with people who don’t believe in logic.”
The supreme leader of the PML-N, reflecting on his future plans for Pakistan, bemoaned the broken path of development during his term in office, saying, “Pakistan would have been a major regional force if the path of growth had not been interrupted by my removal. By now, we would have joined the G20.”
He acknowledged his brother Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to guide Pakistan through difficult times and commended his leadership during the coalition government’s 16-month tenure.
Nawaz said, “I genuinely believe Pakistan will get out of crisis in the next 1.5 to two years,” highlighting the urgent problem of inflation and its effects on the people of Pakistan. He also voiced optimism for the country’s recovery.
While acknowledging that difficult choices may lie ahead, Nawaz emphasized the need for integrity in leadership and voiced confidence in supernatural support, saying, “If our intentions are honest then the Almighty would help.”
In closing, he reflected on the difficulties of being a leader and said, “I would not have survived [as PM] if I were Shehbaz.”
Additionally, he congratulated Shehbaz Sharif and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on their nominations by the PML-N to the prime minister and speaker of the National Assembly, respectively.
Shehbaz was among the 104 members of the parliamentary party that Nawaz chaired earlier in the day. Throughout the procedures, Nawaz declared the official nominations for the important positions and conveyed his faith in Shehbaz’s leadership.
“We will take the country out of the economic crisis,” Nawaz declared as he addressed the assembly, laying out the party’s plan for dealing with the current economic difficulties. Nawaz’s nominations were approved by the PML-N parliamentary party.
In his remarks to the gathering, Shehbaz, the prime minister-designate, promised to carry on Nawaz’s development path. During his brother’s presidency, he recognized the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s security services in the fight against terrorism. On behalf of the citizens of Karachi, Shehbaz conveyed appreciation for the initiatives taken to bring peace back to the city.
Shehbaz emphasized Nawaz’s achievements and pointed out that his brother’s government was ousted in spite of several gains for the nation.
