Achakzai takes center stage
Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the head of the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), addressed the newly elected National Assembly on Friday with a purpose. He not only insisted that the Constitution be upheld, but that everyone view the supremacy of the parliament as the red line.
The PkMAP leader shown guts in pointing out the establishment’s role in politics and making a strong demand that the intervention cease in his forthright address. The seasoned politician insisted that Imran Khan, the head of the PTI, be released immediately, even though he acknowledged that the people had given him a mandate.
Achakzai questioned, “How could we defend the Constitution?” pointing to a phrase in the oath that promises the taker to uphold and defend the Constitution going forward. He claimed that everyone is aware of the establishment’s ongoing manipulation of the document.
Achakzai expressed concern that certain individuals wished to convert the home, which stood for the Pakistani people, into a livestock market. As of right now, according to Achakzai, politics have advanced to the point that those who buy or sell politicians are seen as loyalists, while those who reject these deals are seen as traitors. He yelled, “To hell with such an approach.”
Achakzai proposed passing a resolution declaring that “the establishment and security institutions will have no role in the politics of Pakistan,” referring to the PPP as a democratic party, recalling how PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif used to raise the slogan “Vote Ko Izzat Do [respect the vote]” and emphasizing that Imran Khan had been elected to the parliament through voting. He stated that it’s not a bad idea to suggest and that all of these parties acknowledge this and were aware of the meddling.
Achakzai stated in his address that the house ought to adopt a resolution designating the parliament as the legitimate source of Pakistan’s foreign and domestic policy. To the sound of pounding desks, he declared, “Only it [the parliament] will make policies and no general will come in it.”
Achakzai emphasized the need for intelligence services and an army, but he also argued that in order to prevent people from using their authority to drive them back into garrisons, they should act with elegance and genuinely distance themselves from politics.
From Jati Umra, the Sharif brothers’ Lahore home, to the PTI chairman’s prison cell, Achakzai declared that all politicians, judges, and political workers who upheld the Constitution would be saluted, and those who did not were to be “Murdabad” [down with violators].
Speaking to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the recently elected Speaker of the National Assembly, Achakzai claimed that the parliament had also been assaulted this time, pointing out that democratic and non-democratic forces had been at war ever since Pakistan’s founding.
On the other hand, he applauded thousands of political workers who are Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtun, and other ethnicities for turning the tables on “yours and the generals’ plans” regarding the recently held general elections despite overwhelming odds.
He questioned, “If it was all inherited from one’s father, then you all had already distributed all the key offices among yourselves.” “Congratulations to those workers, irrespective of their political affiliation,” he said, describing how they overthrew the system like a torrent.
He insisted that parliament pass a resolution designating all judges who opposed martial law as “heroes of the Constitution,” recalling how judges had been dismissed for their opposition.
He insisted that while people who backed martial law should lose all benefits and privileges, their families should receive financial help. This was the way to manage and save Pakistan going ahead, he claimed.
Regardless of their race or religious beliefs, he insisted that all regular people who gave their lives in defense of democracy be hailed as “heroes and martyrs of democracy.” He made it clear that no general or espionage agency would be permitted to meddle in politics, and that the three main political parties—the PMLN, PPPP, and PTI—would have to make this declaration under oath.
He claimed that the uniformed men who accepted bribes from anybody need to be fired. Judges, generals, and the rest of us ought to feel regret for the harm we have caused to Pakistan. The generals ought to carry on operating inside the bounds of their constitution. “The people have high hopes from parliament.”
Achakzai claimed that voting for Imran Khan afterward constituted treason against Pakistan and its people, referring to the votes that the PTI received in the general elections. In addition, he called for the release of Imran and other political prisoners.
