Information Minister: JIT should look into attack on Chinese engineers
A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) will be established to look into the terrorist assault on Chinese engineers in Besham, according to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar’s statement on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media after a high-level meeting of the nation’s most important security and government representatives, the minister stated that the gathering acknowledged the necessity of a “coordinated strategy” to combat terrorism.
Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), federal ministers, chief secretaries, chief ministers, and IGPs from all four provinces attended the high-profile meeting.
Additionally, Tarar stated that a system to improve cooperation among relevant players was settled upon.
The minister praised the meeting’s determination by all forces to “leave no stone unturned” and stressed the critical role security forces play in the war against terrorism.
In addition, he denounced as pointless the attempts of anti-Pakistan factions to sabotage the historic alliance between China and Pakistan.
The minister of information praised China’s steadfast assistance during difficult times, emphasizing that China has continuously supported Pakistan’s position on international fora.
In addition to expressing Pakistan’s sympathy for the Chinese people during their difficult moment, he emphasized the crucial importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a “lifeline” for economic advancement.
In response to inquiries on the security protocols of Chinese people in Pakistan, Tarar stated, “There are standard operating procedures (SOPs) in this regard and all out steps are taken to ensure their implementation.”
Regarding security cooperation with provincial governments, Tarar said that the federal government works closely with authorities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
He said that PM Shehbaz has instructed CM Balochistan to quicken construction on the federally sponsored Gwadar Safe City project. According to Tarar, the PM will travel to Gwadar on Thursday to discuss this matter.
In addition, Tarar declared that K-P will create a counterterrorism force (CTD) based on the “state of the art” CTD in Punjab.
A conference was held by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier today (Wednesday) to discuss the state of internal security following the killing of six individuals in a terrorist assault, including five Chinese engineers.
Six people were killed by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber that targeted a convoy carrying Chinese engineers in the isolated Besham area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) one day earlier, just hours after security forces successfully repelled an attack by Baloch terrorists on a Pakistan Navy base in the Turbat district of Balochistan.
From Islamabad, the Chinese engineers were traveling to their camp in Dasu, which is the district capital of K-P’s Upper Kohistan district. Near Lahore Nala on the Karakoram Highway, a vehicle carrying explosives collided with their car from the opposite direction.
