Retired Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa announced on Monday that he is stepping down as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting. After more than a month, Prime Minister has accepted his request. He will continue to work as chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority.

Rejection story of last month :
Bajwa submitted his resignation from SAPM on 3rd September because of facing allegations regarding his family’s assets. However, the premier refused to accept his resignation at the time. The official PTI Twitter account tweeted that Bajwa provided evidence about his family’s assets and Prime Minister is satisfied with it.
“I want to focus fully on CPEC projects,” Bajwa said in television interviews. “CPEC projects are the country’s future,” he added. He said that he would submit his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan. “I hope the prime minister will allow me to dedicate my full attention to CPEC projects.”
It is not clear why the prime minister had a change of heart and accepted the resignation this month.
