Pre-World Cup meet-and-greet for the Pakistani squad is hosted by the US embassy
A meet-and-greet with the Pakistani cricket squad was arranged by US Ambassador Donald Blome in advance of the highly anticipated ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup, 2024, which is scheduled to take place in June in the United States and the West Indies.
Photos from the occasion, which featured members of the Pakistan national squad engaging with the envoy, were posted by the US Embassy in Islamabad on its X account, which was formerly Twitter.
Using a unique cricket ball, all-rounder Shadab Khan and left-arm quick Shaheen Shah Afridi provided Ambassador Blome some cricket advice at the ceremony, according to the post.
The team jersey and signed cricket bat were also given to the ambassador by the players. Blome gave the squad a signed softball bat and a souvenir embassy cricket ball.
To the surprise of the Embassy staff, Shaheen, Shadab, Imad Wasim, and a few more Pakistani players were also spotted batting and bowling. Throughout the team’s visit to the embassy, photos, selfies, and autographs were also exchanged.
The News stated that Pakistan has not yet revealed their team for the forthcoming trip of Ireland and England, which will probably be decided upon by the selectors in the following days.
Before deciding on the squad for the T20I matches in England and Ireland, it was revealed that the selectors were awaiting word on the status of four injured players: Irfan Khan Niazi, Azam Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, and Haris Rauf.
The three-match series versus Ireland will see the selection committee reveal their lineup once they have received an update on the players’ fitness.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set a deadline of May 25 for the cricket body to choose a 15-member World Cup team.
The next Twenty20 International matches between England and Ireland will serve as a benchmark for players hoping to make the World Cup roster.
According to the source, a short training session is scheduled to begin in Lahore on May 3 before the squad departs for Ireland.
