A new 240mm multiple rocket launcher system will be deployed by North Korea

According to state-run media on Saturday, North Korea will provide its armed forces with a new 240mm multiple rocket launcher this year.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw a live-fire test of the “technically updated” version rocket system on Friday.

As replacement equipment, the upgraded rocket launcher will be “deployed to units of the Korean People’s Army from 2024 to 2026.”

According to the KCNA, Kim also talked about boosting shell and rocket launcher production to “the highest level.”
It further stated that the army will shortly implement a “significant change” that will improve its artillery fighting capability.

Relations between the two Koreas are at an all-time low, and Pyongyang has labeled South Korea, an ally of the United States, as its “principal enemy.”

Additionally, the US has charged North Korea of supplying Russia with arms and ammunition to support its war effort in Ukraine.

Kim made a state visit to Russia last year, and relations between Moscow and Pyongyang have been closer in recent months.

North Korea tested the power of a “super-large warhead” in a strategic cruise missile last month. In April, the Missile Administration launched its new Pyoljji-1-2 in the Yellow Sea and tested the warhead on the Hwasal-1 Ra-3 strategic cruise missile.
