Jack Black reacts to the Melbourne students’ request to see a performance of “School of Rock”
Hollywood actor Jack Black recently replied to a request from students at Melbourne, Australia’s Ringwood Secondary College to attend their “School of Rock: The Musical” performance. When the students found out that Black, 54, would be in Melbourne for his band Tenacious D’s Australian tour, they extended an invitation to him.
The students’ online appeal soon acquired momentum, drawing Black’s notice in the end. He showed his excitement in a heartfelt video message, saying, “Ringwood Secondary College, you’re doing School of Rock?! I adore it! Your video has moved and touched me so much, and I know you’re going to be amazing.”
He continued, thinking back on the film’s enduring influence, saying, “You know it’s been 20 years since I made that movie? You guys are going to kill it, and it’s still my favorite movie I’ve ever done.”
But Black apologized to the students, telling them that his hectic schedule prevented him from being at their rehearsals. He broke into song and exclaimed, “But I just wanted to remind you that there’s no way you can stop the School of Rock!”
The invitation was inspired by a video that Lauren Rowe, the production director at the school, posted on Sammy J’s ABC show. “Pop by one of our rehearsals during the time you’re here so we can give you some unfinished homework as part of that rock assignment,” Black is formally invited by the students in the video.
The students chanted Black’s name and begged him to come as they wrapped up their speech. To the delight of their followers, they posted his video response on their Instagram page.
On July 20, Tenacious D will play at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena as part of their Spicy Meatball Tour. They will also play in Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, and Newcastle. At the end of July, the tour will come to an end in Wellington and Auckland, New Zealand.
