Sri Lanka Crushes Bangladesh by Innings in Dominant Test Win
Bangladesh started the day in big trouble at 115 runs for 6 wickets, still 97 runs behind Sri Lanka. They needed a miracle to avoid losing by an innings.
But any hopes of a comeback were quickly crushed.
Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who hadn’t taken any wickets in the first innings, took a wicket with just the fifth ball of the day. He got Litton Das out for 14 runs, caught by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis.
With Litton gone, Bangladesh lost their last good batter, and the rest of the team collapsed soon after.
It was a strong and complete performance by Sri Lanka, which also gained important points in the World Test Championship.
Now, both teams will turn their attention to the next part of the tour: three One-Day Internationals and three T20 matches.
Sri Lanka Crushes Bangladesh to Win Test Match
In this second Test match, no Bangladeshi batter even scored 50 runs — very different from the first Test in Galle, which ended in a draw on June 21. In that match, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored centuries in both innings.
Bangladesh had won the toss on a flat pitch but couldn’t take advantage. They were all out for 247 runs.
Sri Lanka then batted strongly and scored 458 runs, taking a big 211-run lead.
Opener Pathum Nissanka led the way with a smooth 158 runs — his second century in a row in this series. Dinesh Chandimal also played well, scoring 93.
Together, they made a 194-run partnership for the second wicket, putting Sri Lanka in total control.
Bangladesh did take three quick wickets when they got a new ball, but Kusal Mendis hit an aggressive 84 runs and kept Sri Lanka on top.
