Pakistan Defeats India in Indus Waters Treaty Case
Pakistan Wins Legal Case Against India Over Water Treaty
The Prime Minister of Pakistan said that a recent decision by an international court has supported Pakistan’s position. He said India cannot stop the Indus Waters Treaty on its own.
He added, “Water is very important for our people, and we are working to manage it better,” according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister also praised Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Awan for their hard work on this case.
What Happened?
An international court, under the Permanent Court of Arbitration, gave a big legal win to Pakistan. The court agreed with Pakistan and rejected India’s attempt to change or stop the Indus Waters Treaty without agreement from both sides.
The court clearly said:
Neither Pakistan nor India can change or stop the treaty by themselves.
The court will continue its work, even if India disagrees.
India’s idea that the treaty is “on hold” does not affect the court’s authority.
The court said it must keep working on the case fairly and quickly, no matter what India says.
This decision cannot be appealed and is final for both countries
