Islamabad to Become Pakistan’s First Smart City
Islamabad to Become a Smart City Using New Technology
Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wants to turn Islamabad into a smart city by using modern technology.
She said the Ministry of IT is working on many important projects to improve internet access, online education, and healthcare services.
Better Internet for Schools and Hospitals
She shared that the government has already started connecting all public schools, health units, and hospitals in Islamabad with fiber optic internet. In the next 6 to 8 months, all schools, hospitals, and police stations will have fast internet.
Free Wi-Fi in Public Places
The government will also give free internet (Wi-Fi) in public places like metro and bus stations. This will be done by working together with private companies.
Technology in Education
She said the Ministry of Education is helping with this plan. Remote areas will get access to online education through special educational technology (EdTech) tools.
According to the Prime Minister’s vision, new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be taught to children from kindergarten to grade 6. He wants every child in Islamabad to get a good education.
This digital education system will later be extended to places like Gilgit-Baltistan and other far-off areas.
Improved Healthcare with Technology
In healthcare, the Ministry of IT and the Ministry of Health are working on a project called “One Patient, One ID.” It will help organize health records using a single ID for each person.
Also, the internet is being provided to Basic Health Units (BHUs) so patients can talk to doctors online using telemedicine.
IT Education and Job Skills
To help people learn digital skills, the Prime Minister has made a special team to add IT education to the school curriculum.
The government also plans to train 500,000 young people in advanced digital skills. Big tech companies will help:
Google will train 200,000 students
Huawei will train 300,000
Microsoft will train another 200,000
She said boys and girls will learn AI from an early age so they can succeed in the digital world.
“We are working together to create a strong IT workforce for Pakistan,” she said.
