Gaza Strikes and Qatar Talks

Several Killed in Israeli Attacks on Gaza, Peace Talks Continue in Qatar

Israeli airstrikes in different parts of Gaza killed several people, including a baby, according to hospitals:

Al-Shifa Hospital said four people, including a baby, were killed in an attack on a house in Tal al-Hawa, Gaza City.

Al-Ahli Arab Hospital reported that two people were killed in the Tuffah neighborhood, Gaza City.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital said one person died and several were injured in Deir el-Balah.

Nasser Hospital received the bodies of two people killed in a drone attack on the Khan Younis–Western Rafah road.

Four people from the same family were killed when a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, was hit.

At the same time, the Israeli military said five of its soldiers were killed and two were badly injured in an “incident” in northern Gaza.

According to The Times of Israel, a roadside bomb exploded near Israeli soldiers in Beit Hanoon on Monday night, injuring 12 more soldiers.

Talks in Qatar for Peace Deal

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that Israeli negotiators are working toward a peace deal in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Israeli officials also hope that ending the current conflict with Iran will help Israel build better relations with nearby countries like Lebanon, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.

Witkoff, a key person behind a 60-day ceasefire plan, is also going to Doha this week to join the peace discussions, according to the White House.

However, there are still major disagreements between Israel and Hamas. Palestinian sources say that Israel is not allowing enough humanitarian aid (like food and medicine) into Gaza, which is slowing down peace efforts. Israel says it’s trying to send in food but wants to make sure militants don’t take it.

Talks continued for a second day. One meeting happened in the morning, and another was expected in the evening.

What’s in the Peace Proposal?

The US-supported plan includes:

A step-by-step release of hostages.

Israeli troops are leaving parts of Gaza.

Later talks about fully ending the war.

Hamas wants the war to end before it releases the remaining hostages. But Israel says it won’t stop fighting until all hostages are free and Hamas is destroyed.

Trump’s Role and Netanyahu’s Situation

Former US President Donald Trump said last week that he would be “very firm” with Netanyahu about making peace quickly. He also said Netanyahu wants the war to end soon.

Some hardline members of Netanyahu’s government don’t want to stop military action. But many Israeli citizens are tired of the war, so Netanyahu may agree to a ceasefire if the deal is good.

A previous ceasefire broke down in March, and efforts to start it again have failed so far. Meanwhile, Israel has stepped up its attacks and made it harder for people in Gaza to get food.

Situation in Gaza

People in Gaza are waiting for good news. A man named Abu Suleiman Qadoum, who had to leave his home, said, “I ask God that the negotiators or the mediators do everything they can to fix this. We can’t take it anymore.”

The war in Gaza began in October 2023, when Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. About 50 hostages are still in Gaza, and only 20 are believed to be alive.

Israel’s war in Gaza has killed over 57,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry. Most people in Gaza have lost their homes, and the UN warns that nearly 500,000 people could face famine in the coming months.

Trump has strongly supported Netanyahu and recently criticized the corruption case against him. Netanyahu is facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, which he denies.
