Randy Couture Suffers Severe Burns in NHRA Crash Ahead of Racing Debut

Los Angeles – UFC Hall of Famer and six-time champion Randy Couture was seriously injured in a fiery crash on Tuesday, July 8, while preparing for his debut in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

According to ESPN, Couture sustained first, second, and third-degree burns, as well as trauma injuries and smoke inhalation during the accident. He was airlifted to a specialist burn center, where he remains hospitalized under medical supervision. Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the crash.

Couture, 60, had been training in the NHRA’s Pro Stock Division and had been actively sharing his racing journey on social media. His debut was expected later this year.

The incident has stunned fans across both the motorsports and MMA communities, many of whom have taken to social platforms to wish the combat sports legend a full and speedy recovery.

Randy Couture is widely respected in the MMA world for making history as the first UFC fighter to win titles in two different weight divisions. His professional MMA record stands at 19 wins and 11 losses, and he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for his achievements.

Outside the cage, Couture has built a successful career in Hollywood, appearing in films such as The Scorpion King 2 and Expend4bles. Before his rise to fame, he also served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1988, reaching the rank of Sergeant.

Ben Askren Survives Near-Fatal Health Crisis

In other MMA news, former fighter and wrestler Ben Askren shared an emotional update following a near-death experience caused by pneumonia. The 40-year-old underwent a double lung transplant and spent over a month hospitalized, including time in critical condition.

Askren revealed he has no memory of events between late May and early July, and that his heart stopped multiple times during the medical emergency. Doctors took extreme life-saving measures, and Askren is now in recovery.
