Monsoon Rains Kill 111 in Pakistan NDMA Issues Flash Flood Warning

Monsoon Havoc: 111 Dead, 212 Injured in Pakistan as NDMA Warns of More Torrential Rains

ISLAMABAD – At least 111 people have lost their lives and 212 sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Pakistan from June 26 to July 14, according to a report released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The report highlights the devastating impact of this year’s monsoon season, with flash floods being the primary cause of fatalities. In just the past 24 hours, six additional deaths were reported, reflecting the ongoing severity of the weather conditions.

The NDMA noted that structural collapses and other rain-induced hazards have further intensified the crisis. Several cities have been hit by widespread heavy rains, offering some relief from the recent extreme heat but also triggering life-threatening situations.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather advisory, forecasting torrential rains accompanied by wind and thunderstorms from July 15 to July 17 across much of the country.

A low-pressure system currently situated over northwest Madhya Pradesh in India is expected to move toward Pakistan within the next 24 to 72 hours. A westerly wave is also active in the upper regions of the country, contributing to the unstable weather pattern.

According to the Met Office, rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy showers is anticipated in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from the night of July 14 through July 17. Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad during the same period.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and take preventive measures as the likelihood of flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding remains high during this active monsoon phase.
