Lion Seized in Rawalpindi Owner Fined After Lahore Attack
Lion Seized Near Chak Beli Road, Rs60,000 Fine Imposed on Owner
RAWALPINDI: Wildlife officials have recovered a lion being illegally transported in a vehicle near Chak Beli Road, confirming that the owner, Fakhar Abbas, failed to provide any valid license for possessing the wild animal.
Following an investigation, authorities verified that no legal documentation existed to justify the possession or transport of the lion. As a result, a fine of Rs60,000 was imposed on Abbas for the unlawful possession of the protected species.
The confiscated lion has since been transferred to a secure wildlife facility where it will receive proper care and safety.
Earlier Incident in Lahore
This action follows a recent disturbing event in Lahore, where a lion attacked a family at a farmhouse in Johar Town. The attack left three people injured, including two children. Police confirmed that the lion had escaped through an insecure enclosure and entered the nearby street, attacking residents before fleeing.
All victims were rushed to Jinnah Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Wildlife officials later revealed the lion managed to leap over a boundary wall, raising serious concerns about private ownership and inadequate containment of wild animals.
Authorities have reiterated the need for stricter enforcement of wildlife laws to prevent such incidents and ensure public safety.
