Superman Made Me Cry Routh
Brandon Routh Reviews New ‘Superman’: “I Cried No Less Than Three Times”
LOS ANGELES – Brandon Routh, who famously donned the cape in Superman Returns (2006), has shared his heartfelt reaction to DC’s latest blockbuster Superman, praising David Corenswet’s performance and revealing the film left him in tears.
In a new interview with a foreign publication, the 45-year-old actor said, “It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it. I think David [Corenswet] is fantastic.”
Routh, also known for his role in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, admitted the emotional weight of the film took him by surprise. “I cried no less than three times,” he revealed.
Reflecting on his unique connection to the character, Routh added, “I see this differently. I come at it from a different perspective. I got into it as I’m watching him navigate those tricky Superman moments in the first conversation with Lois and Clark in the apartment. And then all of the family stuff for me hit.”
“It’s a big movie. There’s a lot in there. I have to go see it again,” he concluded.
Directed by DC Studios co-head James Gunn, Superman stars David Corenswet as the titular hero, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The film, which premiered globally on July 11, has received mostly positive reviews and has so far grossed over $416 million at the global box office, on a production budget of $225 million.
