Kuwait Requires Fathers Consent for Child Travel
Kuwait Sets New Travel Rules for Children
Kuwait has introduced strict travel rules for children of both Kuwaiti and expat families. These rules are now being followed at all airports, ports, and border checkpoints.
According to Kuwait’s law, the father or male guardian has full legal custody and travel rights for the child. This means that mothers or other family members cannot take a child out of Kuwait without the father’s permission.
To travel with a child, the father must go to the Airport Passports Department and show his Civil ID along with the child’s details. He must then sign a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Immigration officers will only allow travel if this document is shown. If the father is an expat, he can permit his country’s embassy or consulate by signing a notarized document.
If the father is not available, has passed away, or refuses to give permission, the mother can go to court. The court can allow the child to travel for emergencies, medical care, or school purposes.
The Ministry of Interior said some children were recently stopped at Kuwait International Airport because they did not have the right papers. Officials have advised all families to complete travel documents before going to the airport to avoid problems.
