Pakistan Plans to Boost Esports and Gaming Industry

ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan is working to officially recognize esports as a part of the economy, with hopes to create jobs, support youth, and build digital skills.

A high-level meeting was held in Islamabad, chaired by Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and PM Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan.

Officials from the Ministry of IT, Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, and Members of the National Assembly were present. A team from the Commonwealth, along with British Esports Federation members, also joined the meeting.

Esports Can Bring Global Success
Minister Shaza Fatima said that Pakistan has many talented young game developers, and some are already making games for big names like SEGA and Nintendo.

However, she pointed out that the lack of commercial support is stopping these games from reaching more global platforms.

“We need your help to get our games into international markets,” she told the foreign guests.

Three-Step Plan for Growth
To grow the esports and gaming industry, the government plans to:

Add gaming and tech courses in schools and training centers

Provide funding to help young people build careers in gaming

Support the business side of game development

Rana Mashood called it a “great chance to work together” and said gaming is a fast-growing industry that can help young people in Pakistan find new opportunities.

A National Esports Policy Coming Soon
At the end of the meeting, all sides agreed to work on a national esports policy. This policy will follow international standards and support Pakistan’s digital and economic goals.
