Punjab Bike Scheme Offers Cash for Buying Electric Bikes
The Punjab government has launched a new program under the Chief Minister’s Green Credit initiative to reduce pollution and promote electric vehicles.
Cash Reward for Buying Electric Bikes
If you buy and register a new electric bike after December 2024, you can apply for the Punjab Bike Scheme through the government’s online portal. You may receive a total cash reward of Rs. 100,000.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, you must:
Buy a brand-new electric bike (not a retrofitted one)
Register it officially
You will need to submit:
The purchase date
Bike company and model
Registration number
Chassis number
A copy of the registration book
Clear photos of the bike
After you submit your documents, a program representative will visit to check the bike. Once approved, you’ll get the first Rs. 50,000 payment.
Second Payment After Using the Bike
To get the second Rs. 50,000, you must:
Connect your bike to the Green Credit mobile app
Ride the bike for 6,000 kilometres within six months
Once you complete this, the second payment will be given.
Not Eligible?
You cannot apply if your bike was converted (retrofitted) from petrol to electric. Only brand-new electric bikes are allowed.
Clean Environment Goals
The government wants to:
Switch 2,000 petrol bikes and 250 other vehicles to electric
Cut down 8,000 tonnes of carbon emissions every year
Make 30% of electricity in Punjab by 2030
