Best Buy Expands Bengaluru Tech Hub Boosts Hiring
Best Buy Expands Tech Hub in Bengaluru, Plans Major Hiring Drive
Best Buy, the well-known electronics retailer, is rapidly growing its technology operations in India. The company opened its first global capability centre (GCC) in Bengaluru last year, and currently employs around 350 people across key areas such as data and artificial intelligence (AI). This number is expected to rise to between 500 and 550 employees soon.
Once seen mainly as low-cost outsourcing centres, GCCs have evolved into vital hubs supporting a range of business functions, including daily operations, finance, and research and development.
“We’re hiring across various functions, with a strong focus on digital and technology roles,” said Nithya Subramanian, Senior Director of Data & AI COE, during an event in Chennai.
Best Buy’s Bengaluru centre is now its largest tech hub worldwide—bigger even than its three centres in the United States. The company is actively recruiting for positions like AI engineers, software engineers, and product managers, according to job postings on LinkedIn.
Though Best Buy operates over 1,000 stores across the US and Canada, employing more than 85,000 people, it currently does not have retail stores in India. Instead, its India presence is focused on technology and innovation.
This expansion aligns with a broader trend of global firms boosting their footprint in India’s fast-growing tech sector. Recently, Costco Wholesale also announced plans to open its first GCC in India.
Industry experts predict that India’s domestic GCC market could grow from $64.6 billion in fiscal year 2024 to as much as $105 billion by 2030, highlighting the country’s increasing importance as a global technology hub.
