Rivers in Flood as PDMA Confirms 307 Deaths in KP
Islamabad – The Flood Forecasting Division has reported rising water levels in several major rivers across the country. The Indus River is in medium flood at Tarbela, Kalabagh, and Chashma barrages, while at Taunsa Barrage, it remains in low flood.
The Sutlej River is in low flood at Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki, whereas the Chenab is experiencing a medium flood at Khanki and Marala headworks, and a low flood at Qadirabad. The Ravi River is also in low flood at Balloki headworks.
Water levels at reservoirs are climbing steadily. Tarbela Dam has reached 1,546.50 feet, about 96.5% of its maximum storage capacity of 1,550 feet. Mangla Dam stands at 1,209.35 feet, which is 66.8% of its full capacity of 1,242 feet.
Given the situation, the Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has urged the public to fully cooperate with authorities in case emergency evacuations are required. Citizens have also been strongly advised to avoid swimming in rivers, canals, and other water bodies during this critical period.
Meanwhile, the PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed that heavy cloudbursts and flash floods in the past 48 hours have resulted in 307 deaths and left 23 people injured across the province. Among the dead are 279 men, 15 women, and 13 children. The injured include 17 men, 4 women, and 2 children.
Authorities are continuing relief and monitoring efforts as water inflows remain high.
