Sindh Government Launches Decisive Crackdown on Katcha Bandits

KARACHI – The Sindh government has announced an intensified operation against bandits in the Katcha areas of Larkana and Sukkur to ensure lasting peace and curb kidnapping-for-ransom incidents.

The decision came during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, attended by Corps Commander V Lt Gen Muhammad Dastgir, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Home Minister Zia Lanjhar, DG Rangers Maj Gen Muhammad Shamraiz, IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, and other senior officials.

Chief Minister Shah emphasized that maintaining peace in Katcha is a top priority. “No kidnapping-for-ransom incident will be tolerated,” he said, adding that while police and Rangers have been conducting operations in the area since 2024, the campaign will now be intensified and carried out relentlessly. However, dacoits who surrender will be shown leniency.

A high-level monitoring committee, led by the Home Minister and including senior officials like the DG Rangers and IG Police, has been formed to oversee the operation. Another committee will ensure the implementation of operational measures.

The Sindh government has also equipped law enforcement with modern weapons and is leveraging technology to improve the operation’s effectiveness. Internet services in Katcha will be blocked during the campaign, and all social media accounts linked to bandits will be shut down.

Alongside security measures, the government plans development initiatives in the region, including building roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, to improve living conditions. Chief Minister Shah stressed the government’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of peaceful residents.

Earlier, police successfully rescued two hostages from a gang operating in Ghotki’s Katcha area. SSP Ghotki Dr. Samiullah confirmed to the media that the kidnapped individuals were recovered from Rownti.

The intensified operation reflects full coordination among law enforcement agencies, aiming to restore long-term peace and stability in the Katcha region.
