Saudi Arabia Warns Pakistani Airlines Over Flight Delays
RIYADH – Saudi Arabia’s aviation regulator has expressed serious concern over the poor punctuality of Pakistani airlines, warning that continued delays could result in heavy penalties.
In a strongly worded letter to Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) highlighted that international standards require airlines to maintain at least 80 percent on-time performance. However, Pakistani carriers are currently falling well short of this benchmark.
According to the letter, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) managed 69 percent punctuality, Airblue 65 percent, AirSial 46 percent, Fly Jinnah 43 percent, and Serene Air just 37 percent.
GACA stressed that these delays have created major hardships for passengers and demanded immediate corrective measures. The letter, signed by GACA’s President, was addressed directly to the Director General of Pakistan’s CAA.
This comes as Saudi Arabia continues to manage large-scale air travel operations during the busy pilgrimage season. This year, more than 1.67 million people performed Hajj, including over 1.5 million international pilgrims from 171 countries. Records also showed a nearly balanced participation between genders, with 877,841 men and 795,389 women.
