DG ISPR Denounces Fake Story Reaffirms 9 May Stance
DG ISPR Denounces Fabricated Story by Journalist, Reaffirms Army’s Stance on 9 May Violence
Islamabad/Brussels – Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, on Wednesday clarified that senior journalist Suhail Warraich had allegedly fabricated a story for personal gain.
The DG ISPR explained that Warraich attended a public event in Brussels where hundreds of attendees took photographs with Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir. However, the event did not involve any mention of the PTI, nor did it include any apologies, contrary to claims in the published article.
“The article in question was based on misrepresentation. Before publishing such claims, the organisation concerned should have ensured proper verification,” Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif said, urging media outlets to act responsibly.
When asked about potential action against the outlet that published the story, he remarked that institutions are expected to exercise responsibility and avoid spreading unverified information. “The media should understand that such reporting is inappropriate,” he added.
The DG ISPR also reiterated the Pakistan Army’s position on the 9 May violence, stating that accountability will extend to all involved, including masterminds, facilitators, and perpetrators.
“Anyone who commits a crime will face the law and stand trial. The events of 9 May are not just an issue for the Army but a matter for the entire nation,” he said.
Earlier, Army Chief General Asim Munir dismissed rumors of a leadership change, calling them “baseless and malicious.” Speaking at the Brussels event, he said those spreading such claims were opponents of both the government and state institutions.
“God has made me the protector of this country. Beyond this responsibility, I have no desire for any other position,” General Munir stated.
Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic experience, he added that the country has historically maintained balanced relations between China and the United States. “We will not sacrifice one friend for another,” he affirmed.
