Karen Gillan Joins Henry Cavill in ‘Highlander’ Reboot
HOLLYWOOD — The much-anticipated Highlander reboot is moving forward with a star-studded cast, led by Henry Cavill and directed by Chad Stahelski.
According to reports, Karen Gillan has signed on to play Heather, the wife of Cavill’s character, MacLeod, and the love of his life. The film also features Russell Crowe as Ramirez, Dave Bautista as the fearsome warrior The Kurgen, and Marisa Abela in a leading yet undisclosed role.
The Amazon MGM project is set to begin filming in September, with Stahelski — best known for the John Wick series — at the helm.
Speaking in a recent interview, Cavill shared his excitement about the project, saying:
“Highlander! That is taking all of my focus. It’s a project that I’m extremely excited about. This character is going to be a lot of fun to play, and I’m loving working with Chad Stahelski. He is a very talented man.”
For Gillan, the reboot would mark yet another major franchise. Widely recognized for her role as Nebula in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, she also headlined the Jumanji movies and recently appeared in The Life of Chuck, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
If finalized, Highlander would be the third major franchise under Gillan’s belt, further cementing her place among Hollywood’s top talents.
The reboot revisits the iconic 1986 classic, which told the story of an immortal Scottish swordsman battling his last remaining rivals. The original, directed by Russell Mulcahy, starred Christopher Lambert alongside Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart.
