Punjab Launches Rs. 20 Electric Buses by December
Punjab to Roll Out Modern Electric Buses Across All Districts by December
Punjab is set to welcome a fresh fleet of electric buses from Shanghai Sea Port, with the new vehicles expected to reach the province in the coming weeks. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that by December, these modern buses will be operational in every district, offering residents a cleaner and more comfortable way to travel.
Highlighting the affordability of the initiative, Maryam Nawaz said the fare for these state-of-the-art electric buses will be just Rs. 20. “The public will soon enjoy a modern and eco-friendly transportation system, a major step toward sustainable urban mobility across Punjab,” she added.
Earlier this year, Lahore received 11 electric buses from China as part of the first phase of the pilot project, which introduced a total of 27 buses. The service was inaugurated by Maryam Nawaz on February 19. The new buses, each with a seating capacity of 60 passengers, operate from a charging station located in Lahore’s Green Town area, providing a modern and environmentally friendly commuting option for the city.
The transport company overseeing the project has handed over all buses to the Punjab Transport Department for operations. In addition, tenders have been issued for bus services in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, signaling a wider expansion of this green transport initiative across the province.
