Farrukhabad Floods Ravi River Forces Evacuations
Rising Floodwaters Force Mass Evacuation in Farrukhabad as Ravi River Surges
Farrukhabad – Residents of Farrukhabad are rushing to evacuate their homes as floodwaters from the Ravi River continue to rise, prompting many to move their belongings to rooftops or safer locations.
According to ARY reports, the Ravi River at Shahdara is flowing at a dangerously high level of 215,000 cusecs, far exceeding its normal capacity. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued warnings, highlighting strong water pressure and rapidly moving waves.
Residents have started leaving Farrukhabad in large numbers, seeking safety in temporary shelters. Floodwaters have also begun affecting nearby areas, raising serious concerns about displacements.
Despite the danger, crowds have gathered near the Ravi Bridge, with many taking selfies and trying to get close to the floodwaters. Children are among those ignoring safety warnings, prompting repeated appeals from rescue teams. Authorities are using loudspeakers and mosque networks to urge the public to stay away from the riverbanks, but compliance remains low.
In response, the Punjab government, in coordination with the Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122, and the district administration, has launched extensive rescue operations. Medical and relief camps have been set up to assist affected residents. Officials continue to emphasize the dangers of playing near floodwaters, warning that such behavior can hinder rescue efforts.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need to expand Pakistan’s water storage infrastructure to reduce the impact of flash floods. He cautioned that climate change could lead to recurring floods in the coming years, making urgent dam construction a top priority.
