Lucasfilm Starts Star Wars Starfighter with Ryan Gosling
Lucasfilm Kicks Off Production on ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ with Ryan Gosling
Lucasfilm has officially begun production on its upcoming film, Star Wars: Starfighter, in the United Kingdom, giving fans their first glimpse of Ryan Gosling in the iconic universe.
Director Shawn Levy shared his excitement, saying, “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honour as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true—creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever.”
The first promotional image features Gosling alongside Flynn Gray, standing in front of a vehicle reminiscent of the landspeeder Luke Skywalker famously drove in 1977’s A New Hope. While details about the plot remain under wraps, Gray’s prominent placement hints that his character will play a major role in the story.
Star Wars: Starfighter is directed by Levy and penned by Jonathan Tropper, promising “an entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars.”
Alongside Gosling and Gray, the cast includes Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Matt Smith, and Mia Goth.
Lucasfilm has slated the release for May 28, 2027. Before that, fans can look forward to The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to hit theaters in May 2026, marking the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
