Earthquake of 5.3 Magnitude Jolts Pakistan No Loss Reported
Strong Tremors Jolt Parts of Pakistan, No Casualties Reported
ISLAMABAD – A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook several cities across Pakistan on Monday, sending residents rushing out of homes and workplaces in fear. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the quake lasted nearly 10 seconds, with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush mountain range at a depth of around 110 kilometres.
Tremors were widely felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Chakwal, Swat, Peshawar, Malakand, Mansehra, Hangu, and adjoining areas. Reports also confirmed seismic activity in Mardan, Nowshera, Bannu, Buner, Kohat, Charsadda, Attock, Talagang, Kallar Kahar, Choa Saidan Shah, Gujranwala, and Jhang.
In addition, South Waziristan, Lower Dir, Parachinar, and Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, also experienced jolts.
While the tremors caused panic, authorities confirmed that no casualties or property damage had been reported. Officials have urged citizens to remain cautious as aftershocks could follow.
This latest seismic event comes amid a series of tremors that have rattled northern Pakistan in recent months, largely due to tectonic activity in the Hindu Kush region.
Earlier last week, multiple cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Mingora, Chitral, Swat, Battagram, Malakand, Haripur, and Khanpur, were also jolted by an earthquake, prompting people to rush outdoors, many reciting prayers in fear.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise the public to stay vigilant.
