Ferrari Feels Monza Pressure Ahead of Hamilton Debut
Ferrari Faces Pressure at Monza Ahead of Hamilton’s Debut Weekend
Ferrari driver George Russell admitted there’s a “huge amount of pressure” on the team ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. Speaking to the media, Russell said, “More so for me now because I haven’t had a good season. Next week we’ll just try to absorb all the energy from the fans.”
Meanwhile, teammate Charles Leclerc has fond memories of Monza, having won the iconic race twice, including last year. The Monegasque suggested that seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton should embrace the positive energy the tifosi will bring.
“I think our first experiences at Monza as Ferrari drivers are going to be very different,” Leclerc said. “Lewis has lived so many incredible moments already. I’m pretty sure he will still be shocked by how special this week feels, but he’s gone through a lot more than what I had back then.”
Leclerc reflected on his own breakthrough at Monza: “I had just come from Sauber; to win in Monza with Ferrari was unbelievable. It was all at once and quite crazy.”
Hamilton will need as much support from the fans as possible to bounce back to winning form, especially as he faces a five-place grid penalty for a pit lane entry infraction at Zandvoort.
