Maryam Nawaz Orders Flood Relief in Punjab
Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Orders Immediate Relief Measures for Flood Victims
Lahore — In a special marathon session, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the Urban Unit, Board of Revenue, and other relevant departments to take swift action to finalize a comprehensive relief package for flood-affected communities.
The chief minister emphasized a compassionate approach, calling for an increase in the financial assistance provided to victims. She also stressed the need for a dedicated rehabilitation program for farmers who have suffered losses due to the floods.
To ensure fairness and accuracy, Maryam Nawaz ordered an early completion of a transparent survey, with all data digitally recorded. She also formed a high-level committee to oversee the project and announced that she would personally unveil the relief package soon.
Acknowledging the damage to homes, the CM instructed that families unable to return immediately be accommodated in marquees across every district, with separate arrangements for men and women, and guaranteed access to clean drinking water, food, and other essentials. With winter approaching, relocating displaced families to these temporary shelters has been declared a priority.
Maryam Nawaz also announced plans to remove encroachments and settlements from rivers, streams, and canals, declaring these areas as red zones for construction. She directed that flood victims’ homes be included in the government’s “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing program as part of reconstruction efforts.
Reiterating her commitment, the CM said she would not rest until every displaced family was fully rehabilitated. “The flood-affected people have high expectations from us, and it is our duty to meet them,” she said.
Highlighting the need for long-term solutions, Maryam Nawaz called for a master plan to mitigate floods and natural disasters in Punjab, urging the development of sustainable policies to prevent recurring losses in the future.
