AJ Lee WWE Return After 10 Years
AJ Lee Returns to WWE After 10 Years, Sparks Talk of Mixed Tag Match
Chicago — Wrestling fans were treated to a major surprise on Friday, September 5, when AJ Lee, 38, made her long-awaited return to WWE after nearly a decade away from the ring. Lee, whose real name is April Mendez, appeared on SmackDown in her hometown to back her husband, CM Punk, in his clash with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Her comeback has already fueled speculation of a blockbuster mixed tag team showdown, with Lee and Punk potentially taking on Rollins and Lynch at Wrestlepalozaa on September 20.
Lee was one of WWE’s biggest names during her run from 2011 to 2015, leading the then “Divas” division. She became a three-time Divas Champion and held the title for a combined 295 days — the second-longest reign in its history. She retired in 2015, a year after marrying Punk.
While Punk infamously left WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble, Lee carried on, competing until her official retirement. Some of her highlights include successfully defending the Divas Championship in the Vickie Guerrero Invitational at WrestleMania 30 and teaming with Paige to defeat the Bella Twins at WrestleMania 31. Her final match came the following night on Raw, where she joined Paige and Naomi to defeat the Bella Twins and Natalya in a six-woman tag bout.
With her return, WWE fans are now buzzing about whether AJ Lee will step back into the spotlight for one more run.
