Imran Khan’s Family Influences PAC Decisions Amid Party Concerns

Islamabad — Sources say close relatives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan played a key role in recent internal decisions, after presenting reports suggesting that some PTI lawmakers in various committees, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), were leaning toward the government’s stance rather than defending the party line.

According to insiders, Imran Khan was informed that certain committee members were speaking in favor of the government, causing concern within his inner circle.

One family member reportedly believes that lawmaker Junaid Akbar gained his party and assembly positions largely through the recommendation of Bushra Bibi. Sources also noted that Junaid Akbar recently questioned in a PTI WhatsApp group why criticism targeted only the PAC, while issues concerning the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government were being ignored.

Meanwhile, both Imran Khan’s relatives and the KP government are said to prefer Sheikh Waqas for the position of PAC chairman instead of Junaid Akbar.

Earlier, PTI had dismissed any talk of resigning from the National Assembly. Speaking exclusively, senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser said the party has no such proposal under consideration.

Qaiser criticised the assembly for allegedly denying PTI lawmakers the right to speak during sessions, calling it a violation of their legal and constitutional rights. He added that PTI will make future decisions after carefully assessing the national political situation.

Rejecting reports of internal divisions, the former National Assembly Speaker said rumours of cracks within PTI are being spread by “misguided friends” and emphasised that the party remains united in its political struggle.
