Sindh Bank to Issue Benazir Hari Cards, Farmers to Benefit from Subsidies and Solar Panels

KARACHI – Sindh Bank has been officially authorized to prepare and issue the Benazir Hari Cards, aimed at providing financial support to farmers across the province.

Registration and verification for 80,000 new farmers have already been completed, and Sindh Bank is expected to issue 50,000 cards by the end of this month. An additional 50,000 cards will be distributed every 20 days thereafter.

Through the Hari Card, farmers will receive subsidies and financial assistance. In a recent announcement, the minister revealed that the government is also offering subsidies for farmers who wish to convert their drip irrigation systems to solar-powered setups.

Under the new scheme, farmers owning between 5 and 25 acres will be eligible to receive subsidized solar panels. A total of 295 solar units will be installed on 4,000 acres of farmland. Farmers will cover 20% of the costs under the program’s cost-sharing plan, while the Sindh government will bear the remaining 80%.

Farmers wishing to participate can submit their applications to the Hyderabad office until September 20.

It is worth noting that during his election campaign on January 18, the PPP chairman announced plans to provide a “Kisan Card” for farmers, modeled on the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). Addressing a public gathering in Naushahro Feroze, he promised that his party would form both the federal and Sindh governments with public support. He also pledged to double the basic salary after becoming prime minister.
