FIFA Approves Laporte Move to Athletic
FIFA Clears Way for Aymeric Laporte to Join Athletic Club
Athletic Club has confirmed that Aymeric Laporte’s move from Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr can now go ahead after FIFA approved the transfer.
The Basque club had attempted to sign the Spanish defender on September 1, but the deal missed the transfer deadline. Initially, FIFA rejected a request from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for an exception. Athletic, however, appealed the decision, and the request has now been granted.
According to Spanish reports, Al-Nassr had not completed the transfer details in FIFA’s Transfer Matching System, which contributed to the delay.
In a statement, Athletic Club said: “FIFA has authorized the RFEF to obtain the International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from the Saudi Arabian football federation. Once the ITC is issued, Aymeric Laporte can be registered with Athletic Club.”
Laporte, 31, originally left Athletic for Manchester City in 2018 and joined Al-Nassr in 2023.
