Karachi Monsoon Rains Soon
Karachi Braces for Next Monsoon Spell Within Five Days
Karachi is set to remain hot and humid over the coming days, with the next spell of monsoon rains expected to arrive within five days, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office reported that sea breezes have resumed, with southwesterly winds blowing through the city at a speed of around 15 km/h. Temperatures are forecast to reach 34°C, while humidity levels remain high at 85 percent.
Meteorologists said that increased moisture in the air may lead to cloud formation, raising the chances of drizzling or light rainfall in parts of the city. However, heavier showers are only likely once the next weather system develops.
The earlier monsoon system, which triggered flooding in Malir, Lyari, and the Kirthar mountain catchment areas, has now shifted away from Karachi. A depression over the North Arabian Sea has also moved westward, effectively ruling out immediate heavy rains.
PMD officials noted that the monsoon season, which traditionally spans from late June to mid-September, has often extended into the end of September in recent years due to changing weather patterns.
