UK Spying Charges Dropped for Cash and Berry
Charges Dropped Against Two Men Accused of Spying
London – Christopher Cash, 30, and Christopher Berry, 33, have had spying charges against them dropped, bringing relief after a two-year legal ordeal.
The men had been accused of collecting information that could be “directly or indirectly, useful to an enemy” between December 2021 and February 2023. Both denied the allegations, which were brought under the UK’s Official Secrets Act. They were scheduled to face trial in October.
However, prosecutors told London’s Old Bailey court on Monday that the case “no longer met” the standard of evidence required to proceed.
Cash, who previously worked as a parliamentary researcher, had raised concerns about a possible security breach due to his close ties with senior Conservative figures, including former security minister Tom Tugendhat. Berry had spent several years teaching in China since 2015.
Speaking outside court, Cash described the past two years as a “nightmare” but said he felt “relieved that justice has been served.”
