400+ Celebs Back Jimmy Kimmel

Over 400 Hollywood Stars Rally Behind Jimmy Kimmel Amid Free Speech Controversy

In a show of solidarity, more than 400 Hollywood celebrities have signed a letter organized by the ACLU in support of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. The move comes just days after ABC placed Kimmel’s live show on indefinite hiatus following his remarks about the killing of Charlie Kirk, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, who was shot on a Utah university campus.

The ACLU’s letter emphasized the importance of protecting free speech, stating, “We the people must never accept government threats to our freedom of speech.”

The letter further criticized attempts by government leaders to pressure artists, journalists, and companies through retaliation. “Last week, Jimmy Kimmel was taken off the air after the government threatened a private company with retaliation, marking a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation,” it read. “In an attempt to silence critics, our government has threatened the livelihoods of journalists, talk show hosts, artists, creatives, and entertainers. This runs counter to the values our nation was built upon and our Constitution guarantees.”

The message also pointed out that the threats to free expression extend beyond entertainers. “Teachers, government employees, law firms, researchers, universities, students, and so many more are also facing direct attacks on their freedom of expression,” the letter noted.

It concluded with a call to action, urging all Americans to defend their constitutionally protected rights: “Regardless of our political affiliation, or whether we engage in politics or not, we all love our country. Our voices should never be silenced by those in power—because if it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us.”

Celebrities who signed the letter include Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal, Diego Luna, Martin Short, and Meryl Streep. Other notable names are Jason Bateman, Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Rodrigo, Ben Stiller, Jean Smart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Keaton, Regina King, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Natalie Portman, Maya Rudolph, Mark Ruffalo, and Kerry Washington.

The star-studded backing underscores the entertainment industry’s commitment to free speech and support for Kimmel during this controversial moment.
