NHRC vs Netflix Ranbir Vape Scene
NHRC Files Complaint Against Netflix Over Ranbir Kapoor’s Vape Scene in ‘The Ba*ds of Bollywood’**
Mumbai – The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has approached the Mumbai Police, urging strict action against the makers of Netflix’s latest series The Ba**ds of Bollywood* for showing the use of a banned e-cigarette in a scene featuring Ranbir Kapoor.
The controversial moment appears in the final episode of the satirical series, where Kapoor, one of 21 star cameos in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, asks his on-screen manager, played by Anya Singh, for a vape. The scene aired without any statutory warning or disclaimer, raising legal concerns.
Activist Vinay Joshi complained, claiming the depiction violates the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019. He argued that showcasing the banned product could normalize its use and influence younger viewers.
The NHRC has also sent notices to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, calling for immediate action against such content.
The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, a seven-episode series directed by Shah Rukh Khan’s eldest son Aryan Khan, premiered on Netflix on September 18. The launch comes nearly four years after Aryan Khan was involved in a high-profile drug case following an NCB raid on a cruise rave party.
