Miley Cyrus Gardening Kept Me Sober
Miley Cyrus Credits Gardening for Helping Her Stay Sober
Miley Cyrus, 32, the former Disney star who rose to fame as the teen idol in Hannah Montana, has been candid about her past struggles with drug and alcohol use. Since undergoing vocal cord surgery in November 2019, the singer of hits like Flowers has remained completely sober, steering clear of both cannabis and alcohol.
While Cyrus admitted to a brief relapse during the COVID-19 pandemic, she recently opened up about one unexpected activity that has played a crucial role in her five-year journey toward sobriety: gardening.
In a conversation with Pamela Anderson, Cyrus shared, “Gardening is something you do for yourself. When we’ve shared so much of ourselves, having those little precious times with something simple — like putting a seed in the ground and nurturing it — it becomes a very personal process.”
Describing it as a “genuine win,” she added, “Having that has been the medicine that’s kept me grounded in my sober lifestyle.”
Cyrus likened gardening to yoga, saying it’s “getting out into nature, doing something with my hands, and having a creative outlet that isn’t about fame or success.” She recounted one moment on a hillside before a tour, scattering seeds and hoping for a little magic when she returned.
