River Floods Manjhand Barrages Under Pressure
Rising River Levels Put Barrages and Communities at Risk
The river’s water levels continue to surge, putting immense pressure on major barrages and flooding surrounding areas. At Kotri Barrage, the water inflow reached 3,76,118 cusecs, while 3,50,163 cusecs were released downstream.
The rising waters have inundated Manjhand taluka in Jamshoro district, submerging nearly 70% of the area. Floodwaters have destroyed standing crops across hundreds of acres and have reached key local landmarks, including an old Hindu temple and the railway station.
Authorities report that the peak flood flow has already passed through the Guddu and Sukkur barrages, with river levels now gradually receding. At Guddu Barrage, water inflow was recorded at 2,53,200 cusecs, while outflow stood at 2,23,805 cusecs, according to the Sindh Information Department.
Similarly, Sukkur Barrage saw an inflow of 2,54,560 cusecs, with 1,99,440 cusecs flowing out. Meanwhile, the PDMA Punjab reported that water flow at the Punjnad Headworks is 1,11,000 cusecs.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert as the river continues to affect communities downstream.
