Punjab Government Expands Free Wi-Fi Across Province, Eyes Modernized Railways
Lahore – In a major push to enhance digital access, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the expansion of free Wi-Fi services across the province.
A spokesperson for the Safe City Authority confirmed that free internet is now available at 442 locations across Lahore, with over 58 million users having consumed 1,191 terabytes of data through the service so far. The initiative has also been rolled out to 23 districts in Punjab, covering 952 key public locations.
In a related development, Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi announced plans to introduce free Wi-Fi at Punjab’s railway stations. Speaking to a private news channel, Abbasi said the government has committed Rs. 350 billion to revamp eight branch railway routes across the province.
“40 railway stations in Punjab will soon be equipped with free Wi-Fi services,” Abbasi stated, emphasizing the government’s focus on modernizing Pakistan Railways. He added that the ML-1 railway corridor remains central to the province’s development plans.
Abbasi further highlighted that the upgrades aim to bring railway infrastructure up to international standards, improve governance, and integrate advanced systems within the department.
