Tariq Mahmood Banned IHC Case Update
University Bans Tariq Mahmood Over Unfair Means; IHC Case Takes New Turn
Karachi – The university’s Unfair Means Committee has found Mr. Tariq Mahmood, son of Qazi Muhammad Akram, guilty of using unfair means, resulting in a three-year ban on his admission and examinations.
A notification issued by the Assistant Registrar (Settlement), following a decision by the Syndicate, also confirmed that Justice Qazi was never enrolled as a student at Islamia Law College, Karachi. His enrollment number 7124/87 has officially been canceled.
Meanwhile, the legal proceedings involving Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) have taken a new turn. Advocate Jehangir Khan Jadoon has filed a petition requesting the preservation of audio and video footage from the hearing on September 16, 2025, in which Justice Jahangiri was restrained from performing judicial duties.
Jadoon told the court that the case had been heard by a Divisional Bench led by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan. “According to media reports, the Chief Justice had initially stated that no decision would be taken immediately and that all counsels would be heard. However, unexpectedly, an order was issued restraining Justice Jahangiri from performing his judicial functions pending proceedings before the Supreme Judicial Council,” he said.
He emphasized that the sudden shift between the hearing’s stated plan and the subsequent order is a serious matter of record, especially for members of the Bar, who serve as officers of the Court.
The advocate has requested that the IHC provide a copy of the audio and video recordings after ensuring their preservation.
