Transporters Hike Fares After Petrol, Diesel Price Increase

KARACHI – The transport sector has announced a 3% increase in fares following the federal government’s latest hike in petrol and diesel prices.

Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan said transporters are unable to absorb further losses, warning that continued fuel price hikes are creating serious instability in the sector. He also cautioned that transport unions are preparing to take more drastic steps if the government does not review its decision.

According to a notification from the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has risen by Rs4.07 per litre, bringing it to Rs268.68, while high-speed diesel has gone up by Rs4.04 to Rs276.81 per litre. The new rates took effect immediately.

Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced some relief for households, slashing the price of a domestic LPG cylinder by Rs79.14. The revised price now stands at Rs2,448, down from Rs2,527.
